Napoleon entered politics as personal assistant to erstwhile Public Welfare Minister, K. N. Nehru. This close association with Nehru, who also happened to be his uncle, exposed him to the humane face of politics and the ideologies of the DMK. It also gave him the perfect opportunity to hone his leadership skills and prove himself as a capable administrator.
Politics gave Napoleon ample scope to develop his leadership skills and extend help to the masses. Identifying himself with the common man, Napoleon was soon hailed as a people’s leader.
From being K. N. Nehru’s assistant, Napoleon emerged as a key person responsible for managing the party’s propaganda, organizing political rallies and planning and administrating campaigns.
Napoleon contested his first General Election in 2001 on a DMK ticket from Villivakkam constituency (Asia’s largest constituency). Napoleon emerged as people’s leader and unanimously elected as the MLA of Villivakkam defeating his nearest rival
Dr. A. Selva Kumar of Tamil Manila Congress.

Napoleon contested in Parliament Election held in 2009 for DMK party at Perambalur constituency. He won the election with 3, 98,742 votes and unanimously elected as the Member of Parliament He defeated his nearest opponent Mr. Balasubramanian, k.k. (AIADMK) with a margin variance of 77,604 votes.
He emerged as people’s leader, His successful political journey revamp as a MP from MLA.
